Description

In a world spun from both fantasy and reality, the narrative centers around the intricate lives of characters caught in the throes of conflict and emotion. The author weaves a tale where monsters aren’t merely creatures of shadow, but embodiments of personal struggle and introspection. As the protagonist journeys through their challenges, readers are drawn into a labyrinth of relationships that test loyalty, courage, and the capacity for forgiveness.

The tension escalates with every turn of the page, as past grievances surface alongside the thrills of newfound connections. Each character is richly developed, showcasing the complexities of human and monstrous nature alike. The clash between inner demons and external forces creates a captivating dynamic, pushing individuals to confront their motivations and desires.

With sharp prose and an engaging rhythm, the story invites contemplation of themes such as redemption, love, and the weight of one's choices. It promises a compelling exploration of how the past can shape the future while leaving room for hope and healing.

Ultimately, the narrative offers a poignant reminder that even amidst chaos, the power of an apology can forge a pathway to understanding, revealing that both monsters and muses have their roles in the tapestry of life.

3.5Another buddy read with my best good friend :)After reading Oaths & Omissions I genuinely couldn't wait to read Alistair's book.Normally when I write a review I know my rating before I write it but with this one I think I need to get my thoughts out and see what rating I think afterwards. This book to start with was so good. It had a much quicker pace than the rest of the books, I really appreciated that. It gave this book a sense of uniqueness that the others since Promises hasn't really had (not that that is a bad thing just something I have picked up on)Now while it started good with Alistair and Cora meeting and having an interesting first interaction I expected that pace to continue and to build from there. Yet that isn't what we get unfortunately. The pace keeps up for about a third of the book and then in my opinion slows down quite significantly. Now I will say as this is a buddy read and that me and my friend talk after each section we read, we talk about what we think will happen and try to figure out plots. She suggested one that I didn't think about but when she said it I remembered a detail that added to her suggestion. We both said that if that turned out to be correct and that was the main plot point it would greatly reduce the rating as we are both readers that like to be surprised  and unfortunately that doesn't happen often. Our prediction was correct and I am unsure if the way the ending was done, if that was supposed to be the main plot reveal or if it was the other thing that was revealed with the plan that was put in place to get them to meet in the first place. That will be determined after I speak to my buddy reader in regards to if that was the main reveal or not and my rating will confirm the outcome of that conversation. Now as for Cora, I found her to be very self involved and not very open to talking about things and yet she wanted to know everything about Alistair. That I found unfair. Also the amount of times that this whole plan with ****** was happening behind the scenes that Cora could have told Alistair the truth about certain situations involving ****** that gave away some of his intentions annoyed me as he would have more facts to work with and could have dealt with it differently.I will say the ending after ****** was dealt with made my heart hurt for Cora. Despite her irritating nature, that was so sad.Now depending on the copy of the book you read (mine is the indie copy) you will get a bonus chapter and I can't annotate that as I had to get it off Sav R Millers website but I will say that something that is mentioned is rather gross considering the relationship between two of the people involved and it makes me wonder if that piece of information hasn't been revealed in the series yet. That was just a little perspective on that bonus chapter. While I didn't dislike this book I don't think I can score it the same as the others unfortunately.

And now this book is done.I read the trigger warnings before I started, just so I knew what I was getting into, and I forgot pretty much immediately what one of them was. Until the last few pages of the book. As soon as I remembered, I knew what was about to happen. It pretty much went the way I thought. Marshall was sus from day one, Hollis and Lucian were the same person, and the meeting between Cora and Alistair was not as coincidental as originally thought.I was honestly expecting the worst for Cora and Alistair since this story was supposed to be based a bit off of Apollo and Daphne. Considering how that whole thing ended, I was truly expecting the worst. But I shouldn't have worried. Considering this series, I knew there had to be some way things would still work out for them. I loved their dynamic. Even though they were complete opposites, they still blended so well together.Next will be Cash's story, Lenny's older brother. I'll be curious to see who he's paired off with. From Lenny's POV in the previous book, he definitely isn't the cold type he was first presented as. He's got a soft spot for his younger sister and it's clear he doesn't view his family in the best light. Not that that will be a problem for him.I can't wait to see the world through his eyes. I think that's one of the most fun parts about this series. You meet a character who ends up being a main player and get their POV in one of the following books, seeing the world through their eyes and seeing how they view their relationships. For instance, when seeing things from Jonas's POV, you don't really notice how much Alistair treasures and looks out for him. But then when you look through Alistair's head, you truly see just how much he is doing to keep his little brother safe. I love seeing that and I can't wait to see how Cash sees the world.
