Description

As Harry Potter steps into his fifth year at Hogwarts, he faces a world that feels fundamentally different. With the rise of dark forces, the magical community is in turmoil, and Harry finds himself grappling with the weight of his newfound fame and responsibility. The Ministry of Magic refuses to acknowledge the return of Voldemort, leaving Harry feeling isolated and frustrated.

At Hogwarts, the atmosphere is tense, compounded by the arrival of Dolores Umbridge, a Ministry official who imposes strict and often cruel rules. The students, particularly Harry and his friends, are determined to fight back against the oppressive regime established by Umbridge. This leads to the formation of a secret group, The Order of the Phoenix, through which they prepare to confront the looming threat.

Harry’s emotional struggles deepen as he deals with loss, betrayal, and the trials of adolescence. Friendships are tested, and the bonds with Ron and Hermione grow stronger as they support each other through the difficult times.

Amidst the chaos, Harry must also learn to grapple with the visions and connections he has with Voldemort. As the stakes rise, so does the tension, culminating in a series of events that will change not just their lives, but the wizarding world forever.

Sorry my rose colored nostalgia glasses make it impossible to rate this (whole series) critically. My identity was, and still kinda is, far too connected lol

Reread: 1/23/17Returning to the Harry Potter world is always magical, but since I always sputter out on a read during books 3 or 4,it was honestly a treat to reread OotP as I haven't read it cover to cover since it's release. Returning to this phase of Harry's life as an adult was fascinating. Know what was to come made all the stupid mistakes everyone made so much more painful to read, but all of the characters' motivations made sense too. Ugh. Suffice it to say, I really really loved this reread, but found the second half hard to read as Trump was officially inaugurate as US president and too many parallels were easy to draw between Umbridge and the corrupt government with Trump and his emerging administration.

This reread has finally gotten far enough from the rose-tinted glasses to see how holey and underdeveloped the plot is.

[Spoiler Free Review]The first book in the series and what a great introduction it is. It's not my favourite, but it does hold a special place in my heart and you can't deny how deeply iconic it is. What a unique and interesting world, thank you JK Rowling for giving children and adults alike some magic in their everyday lives.

[Spoiler Free Review]It's still a great book, but I take away two stars because I honestly can't remember what the hell happened in this book xD This book was Harry at his most insufferable too, maybe that's why my brain is protecting me. To be fair, Harry has every right to be this way, he is greatly traumatized and I feel for him. I still cringe at him and Cho though.
