Description

In a world where romantic relationships seem to define one's coming-of-age story, a young protagonist navigates the uncharted waters of identity and self-discovery. Grappling with the realization that they have never experienced a crush, this individual embarks on a journey to understand their own feelings and place in a society that often equates love with existence.

As they confront the expectations of friends and family, the protagonist finds themselves questioning not only their romantic aspirations but also the meaning of love itself. Through these introspective moments, they reflect on friendships, societal norms, and the intricate relationships that shape one's understanding of oneself.

The narrative unfolds with a refreshing honesty, inviting readers to explore the complexities of asexuality and the myriad forms of love beyond the conventional framework. As the protagonist discovers their own truth, they emphasize that connection can be profound even when it doesn’t fit into traditional molds.

Pretty mediocre for me. Ace rep is pretty rare tho so i'm glad Alice Oseman wrote an AroAce character (which is even more rare) but i think it wasn't done in an interesting way.you can argue that her sexual/romantic identity doesn't have to be interesting and i get it. She is valid, and so is her experience but it's a work of fiction and i wanted the plot and the characters to be more engaging.Unfortunately it didn't quite hit the mark for me.▪︎I appreciated the diversity of the cast.▪︎Enjoyed the sex positivity since it could've been percieved a certain way by the main character (as she does not vibe with it).▪︎The side couple's "conflict" was very much a no for me even though their energy was great together.▪︎ Jason is a precious PRECIOUS friend Georgia better treat him with damn respect▪︎ I realised that loving side characters more than the main one is very on brand for me when it comes to Osemanverse. Like Jason and Sunil and Aled???? (And if 2 out of 3 are ace what about it?? Wanna fight?) ▪︎Jason is the one heterosexual man who deserves rights▪︎putting Sunil there just so he could teach Georgia about asexuality in length was a bit much for me.▪︎ I was thinking maybe writing middle grade can actually turn out very well for Alice Oseman. NOTHING WRONG WITH THE YA SHE WRITES but i just feel like the way she does it can do so much for a middle grade/ younger YA audience. That was it. Got a bit ranty. If you made it all the way through, here have a strawberry
