Description

In a changing Afghanistan, Parvana and Shauzia find themselves navigating a world filled with renewed challenges and uncertainty. As the Taliban returns to power, they must summon every ounce of courage to survive and help those around them. The duo, who once dreamed of a brighter future, now contemplates their next moves amid the chaos that has engulfed their homeland.

Through their enduring friendship, they encounter obstacles that test their resolve and inspire them to rise against the backdrop of oppression. Their journey unfolds with a profound message about resilience, hope, and the indomitable spirit of youth, as they strive to carve out a semblance of normalcy while clinging to their aspirations for a better tomorrow.

This is the 'sequel' that I wish was never written. Not because it's bad (on the contrary, I think it's the best in the series) but because it never should have happened. The Taliban shouldn't have come back, the once teenagers shouldn't need to protect themselves and others again. Parvana deserved a somewhat happy ending. But I send kudos to the author, because a book is nothing without a purpose. And there is no doubt that this book served its purpose. I still have my fingers crossed for a happy ending for Parvana and everyone she represents. It's certainly worth the read but be ready to cry. Because this book may be fiction, but it represents a lot of real problems, that real men, women and children experience.
