One Silver Shilling

Biddy needed five shillings. Miss Green had told the class that they were going to take a picnic to the zoo for their summer treat, and that it would cost five shillings each. Biddy had saved four shillings already and Dad gave her the fifth himself.
So the very next morning, Biddy took the money to school with her. But somehow, one silver shilling rolled out of her hand into the long grass. She searched and searched, but she just could not find it. She knew she couldn't ask Dad for another; her big brother Dave and baby Tina needed things too. So she had to earn it for herself.
Biddy seemed to have lots of chances of getting her money. She found several shillings-but they all belonged to someone else. She earned various things--but never a shilling. It began to seem that the zoo treat would be impossible for her. But then two quite unexpected things happened.
