Description
The young Anne Russell regrets the break in her engagement with Captain Frederick Wentworth. She had hoped to be married, but her father and sister did not approve the match. In financial straits Anne's family move to more modest circumstances in Bath. When Anne and Wentworth meet again, it takes them some while to reconcile, but eventually they are reunited. In the course of the book Jane Austen explores social attitudes to marriage, romantic and family love, the power of social misunderstanding and the apparent role of fate in the desperate despair of unrequited love.

Voir toutI have never any of Jane Austen's work prior to this and so I had no idea what was is store for me. I have always enjoyed English literature so i figured this would not not be hard to go through. Oh dear was I wrong. It felt as if I was actually preparing for an English literature exam. This was one of the hardest books I ever had to read. I found that I had to be reading over paragraphs several times so as to be able to understand what was being said. Despite the difficulties encountered I found it to be quite an interesting read. I am glad that I persevered as it was worth it in the end.
