As Alana Reese's debut novel, it delivered a heartfelt romance, memorable characters, and a medical setting that felt authentic and immersive from beginning to end.The story follows Leena and Julian, and from their very first interaction, an undeniable connection between them becomes clear. While their attraction is immediate, what I appreciated most was that the romance wasn't built solely on physical chemistry. It was built on patience, consistency, trust, and the small moments that slowly brought them closer together.CharactersJulianJulian quickly became one of my favourite romance MMCs. He is thoughtful, attentive, patient, and completely devoted. What stood out most was how he respected Leena's boundaries while still making it clear that she was someone worth pursuing. So many romance MMCs are described as green flags, but Julian genuinely earned that title. He wasn't perfect, but he was self-aware, willing to admit when he was wrong, and constantly striving to be better. Leena Leena was a character I found incredibly relatable at times. She carries emotional baggage from past experiences, making her cautious in relationships. While there were moments where I wanted to lovingly shake her and tell her to just let herself be happy already, her fears felt realistic. Her struggles with vulnerability, trust, and self-worth made her journey feel authentic rather than frustrating. Charlie Every romance needs that one friend who tells it like it is, offers support without judgment, and secretly ships the couple harder than the readers do. Charlie was that character, and I loved every scene she appeared in.SettingOne of my favourite aspects of this book was the hospital setting. The medical environment wasn't simply used as a backdrop—it actively influenced the story, the conflicts, and the relationships. You can tell Reese's experience in the field shines through because everything felt detailed, believable, and grounded. The workplace dynamics, hospital politics, and professional challenges added another layer to the story that I really enjoyed. ChemistryThe chemistry between Julian and Leena was fantastic. There were so many moments that had me smiling, kicking my feet, and rooting for them. The tension was there, but so was the emotional connection. I especially loved the smaller gestures—the texts, the coffee deliveries, the thoughtful details that showed how much attention Julian paid to the things that mattered to Leena. Overall Thoughts I only have one critique: the push and pull of the relationship felt a little repetitive at times. I occasionally found myself wanting the story to move forward more quickly. However, the payoff was worth it because the relationship felt earned by the end.Overall, Scrubbing In is a sweet, emotional, and swoony medical romance filled with heart. It combines workplace romance, genuine character growth, and a hero who falls hard and never looks back. If you enjoy romances with a devoted MMC, strong emotional development, realistic relationship challenges, and an authentic medical setting, I highly recommend picking this one up.I’m so excited to see what comes next; there are so many options when it comes to the next book.
