Okay…I loved this. Like really loved it—except for one person (you know who you are)
From the start I was hooked. The whole gothic academy vibe mixed with secret societies had me completely locked in.
Verena…girl. I wanted to shake her so many times and be like PLEASE open your eyes, the red flags are screaming at you. But at the same time, I get it. The way she’s thrown into this world, everything changing overnight, not feeling like she belongs anywhere–it made her feel really real, even when I was frustrated with her choices.
And Loxen?? Oh my god. He carried. The tension, the looks, the way he showed up. I lived for every scene with him. Their banter was so good, and the softer moments…yeah I was gone.
The romance had me in a chokehold. It’s that perfect mix of tension and chemistry.
The plot twists.. So good. I didn’t see it coming the way it unfolded, and the ending. Actually painful. Like I sat there staring at the page going “no…no way.” It broke my heart more than once, and now I’m just sitting here needing book two immediately.
Overall, this was such a fun, emotional, slightly chaotic read with a lot of tension and just enough darkness to keep things interesting. If you like enemies to lovers, forced proximity, and a protective MMC in a gothic setting–this is 100% worth picking up.
And yeah…I’m gonna need the next book like yesterday.
