Description

Set three centuries after the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial has transformed into a realm on the brink of modernization. The societal landscape is now rife with mechanical advancements and a burgeoning sense of identity, yet it remains deeply influenced by its storied past. As advancements in technology and culture occur, individuals grapple with the remnants of their history and the legacies left behind by those who came before.

Amidst this backdrop, a new conflict emerges, drawing characters into an intricate web of intrigue and discovery. Secrets of the past unfold as they navigate their relationships and confront the challenges posed by a world that is constantly evolving. With familiar themes of legacy and progress, the narrative invites readers to explore a dynamic universe where the intertwining of magic and machinery presents fresh opportunities and dangers. In this ever-shifting world, the characters must confront not only external threats but also their own inner demons shaped by the weight of their ancestors' choices.

Avis

First read: 1/29/16 I want to give this book more than 5 stars because it not only met my expectations, but exceeded them. And I had pretty high expectations.

As with all of Sanderson's Cosmere, I thoroughly enjoyed this setting and the characters. Tress is a great young adult character with her growth excellently executed through the progression of the novel and the rest of our cast was filled with a variety of interesting individuals. I appreciated the inclusion of a Deaf and disabled character and the lovely sentiment of the book's lesson. Unfortunately, I found our narrator's rambling metaphors and similies and their vocabulary to constantly throw me out of the world.
