So... I was very excited to start reading this because I really like the premise. However, I was pretty disappointed with the result. I thought the book lacked pace and the overall writing was sub par in my view. The book just never grabbed me the way I was hoping to be grabbed by a zombie story. I tried to like it but unfortunately I just thought it lacking. When the book was done I was more happy to be able to start a new one than excited by the ending. I thought the ending was a complete lackluster finale. So... 2 stars.
The Zombie War came unthinkably close to eradicating humanity. Max Brooks, driven by the urgency of preserving the acid-etched first-hand experiences of the survivors from those apocalyptic years, traveled across the United States of America and throughout the world, from decimated cities that once teemed with upwards of thirty million souls to the most remote and inhospitable areas of the planet. He recorded the testimony of men, women, and sometimes children who came face-to-face with the living, or at least the undead, hell of that dreadful time. World War Z is the result.
I saw the film which I was pleasantly surprised with so I chose to read the book to put more flesh on the bones! Unfortunately it just wasn't my thing being in the format of interviews. I just couldn't get into it before it moved onto the next story. I ended up just skipping lots of pages. Shame.
