Book: A Discovery Of Witches Author: Deborah HarknessStars: 5⭐My Review: It begins with absence and desire. It begins with blood and fear. It begins with a discovery of witches.I absolutely LOVE this trilogy & the TV series. This series always gets me out of my reading slump.Diana Bishop is a Historian and she comes a cross an alchemical manuscript in the Bodleian Library in Oxford..For those who do not know, Ms Harkness herself is a Historian and she did find a lost manuscripts. That's is where she got the idea for A Discovery Of Witches. The book appeals to a reader on so many levels. There is an epic battle for a right to choose who one can love and be with. There is magic (and most of us wishes for some in our lives) and creatures living undetected among humans. There is the good versus evil struggle between wonderfully developed characters. The plot is intriguing and twisted, the locations beautifully presented. The history and art of the days gone by forming a charming and convincing background. There's also a message the trilogy is sending us- we are all one big human family, and the differences between people or people and creatures are artificial and slowing our progress.Tropes: • Forbidden Love / Battle Couple• Alchemy Magic • All Witches have cats• Battle Couple• Forbidden Love• Witches• Vampires • Demons• Powerful Witches & Vampires@abcchallengea - a discovery of witches @prompt610 pages Release date: 8 February 2011Book: 1 of 5 All Souls Trilogy American History Romance • Contemporary Fantasy Fiction 4.02 * on GoodReads
I read this book as part of my groups BOM....I'm glad I did.I was reluctant to read this , usually witches are stereotyped and made out to be pure evil etc etc. I found this book not too bad in that aspect.Diana is a witch just trying to be normal and forget she was even a witch. She became a scholar. And studied history. Then she became interested in History. This is when she called up the wrong book. You see this book is very powerful. And has been lost for centuries. A and Diana has the power to find it.I quite enjoyed this book with its fine line of fact and fiction. The author has really done her research. It still doesn't really bridge understanding of the life of wiccans or pagans ( or whatever flavour you are), which is what I thought it would be about ( I didn't realise it was just a story! ). But its a pretty good and enjoyable story
