This is a lovely little book. I have to admit I usually stay away from books that are about books. But this little one appealed to me and I really do love Japanese fiction. It feels like that is a similar sort of style to most Japanese fiction I read, in that it is very calm and clean feeling. Maybe it is just the choice of works we get translated into the UK tend to be the same sort of feeling?

Days at the Morisaki Bookshop is a gentle, heartwarming novella about healing, self-discovery, and the quiet power of books. The story follows Takako, a young woman who takes refuge in her uncle’s tiny bookshop in Tokyo after a personal heartbreak. Surrounded by dusty shelves and the scent of old pages, she slowly reconnects with herself and the world around her.Yagisawa’s writing is simple yet poignant, capturing the soothing rhythm of bookstore life. The novel doesn’t rely on dramatic twists but rather on small, meaningful moments. It’s perfect for readers who enjoy reflective stories about finding peace in unexpected places.O
