I loved almost everything about this book. I loved the characters, the story, the friendship dynamic. I especially loved Darcy's journey of finding herself, and I could really relate to many of the things she was struggling with. Her struggles felt real and not overwritten, if that makes sense.I diiiiid get a moderate ick with everything Hayden was thinking and doing throughout the years regarding Darcy. Honestly, a lot of the things he did are only hot because you know they’re into each other—and because he’s a hot hockey player. There’s yearning for the woman you love (and there were plenty of amazing scenes like that here), and then there’s “well… that’s a bit creepy.”Also, the whole miscommunication of “oh, he doesn’t want a serious relationship so I’m not gonna get too invested in this” felt a bit overused for me. I get not wanting to ruin the friendship by complicating things, but at some point… you’ve already crossed the point of no return for a friendship.Overall, I did enjoy this book a loooot—I just had to switch off my pragmatic brain a little more.
3 / 5 ⭐i always forget how much the friends to lovers trope annoys me until i read a friends to lovers story. bc i liked hayden and darcy individually, and i even liked them together, but the amount of times they used the excuse that they were just “friends” or didn’t want to ruin the “friendship” for the miscommunication made me want to rip my hair out. anyway still love stephanie archer sm and can’t wait to continue the series, petition for a luca book pls!!!!pre readi came across a post for gloves off today and realized i actually never read this one so ... time to catch up
