My Rating: ★★★☆☆"Before" by Nicola Marsh is an engaging novella that serves as a prelude to the Bombshell series, setting the stage with a mix of romance and personal discovery. The story immediately draws you in, transporting readers from the small-town life to the sun-soaked, adventure-filled outback of Australia. The protagonist’s journey is relatable and heartwarming, as she seeks to escape her past and embrace new experiences. Her trip to Australia is filled with excitement and a hint of danger, especially when she meets Jack, a charismatic bad boy with an irresistible Aussie accent. Their chemistry is undeniable, making their interactions both entertaining and intense. One of the strengths of this novella is its ability to quickly develop characters that are easy to connect with. Jack, with his bronzed physique and magnetic charm, epitomises the quintessential romantic lead. However, as an Australian, I found the portrayal of his character, particularly the exaggerated use of Aussie slang, a bit stereotypical and overdone despite knowing the author is also Australian. This didn’t take away from the overall enjoyment, but for me, it did feel somewhat distracting.Nicola Marsh’s writing is smooth and engaging, making the novella an enjoyable read from start to finish. The pacing is well-handled, ensuring that even in its short length, the story feels complete. While the novella is designed to introduce readers to the series, it still stands on its own as a fun and flirty read. However, as a novella, it’s naturally brief, leaving some elements underdeveloped. The story ends just as you’re fully invested, which might leave readers eager for more but also wishing for a bit more depth in the character arcs."Before" is a delightful introduction to the Bombshell series that promises more excitement and romance to come. Fans of contemporary romance, especially those who enjoy a quick, engaging read, will find this novella a charming escape. If you're looking for a light, entertaining story with a dash of Aussie flair, "Before" is a great pick.
