-The Australian Literary Review

“…a darkly comic story… The humour is sporadic. The darkness is not.’
-Sydney Morning Herald

DEATH, LOVE AND PET PSYCHIATRY

A twisted tale about Feng Shui, vampires, drinking, pet psychiatry, genocide, belief and mortality. In this darkly comic, slow-burn fantasy thriller, nothing is as it seems. A nightclub opening becomes a fight for life and the discovered fountain of youth hides a movement to exterminate a race.

Chasing the Sun ’s twenty-something protagonist and narrator, Honda, is a disgruntled, cocaine-addicted con man posing as a Feng Shui expert. He’s also a vampire. His nightclub loving friends are also vampires, apart from a single mother, Rain. When Rain dies, Honda is the only one left to care for her young daughter Dip who brings him face to face with his mortality, and morality, as he tries to protect her.

THE BEST WAY TO BLEND IN IS TO STAND OUT

Chasing the Sun is a coming-of-age story where a young man realises he isn’t going to live forever. It’s not a vampire story, but a story with vampires in it.
Baker skilfully uses vampires as a metaphor for eternal youth and that feeling of immortality common in people’s mid-twenties. The vampire aspect is a backdrop for the human elements of the story to play out against.

Robin Baker knows death. From his work in a funeral home, Robin learned how quickly things can change and how truly short and fragile life is – something we often don’t realise until it’s too late.

Do you love black comedy thrillers ? Do you love Robin Baker’s impeccable wit and take on life? Why not try another of his wonderful stories?
