Descrizione

In the vibrant chaos of New York City, Cleo finds herself slipping away from the life she once grasped tightly. Surrounded by endless parties, glamorous faces, and artistic ambitions, she grapples with a creeping discontent. Each evening promises excitement, yet what lingers beneath the surface is a disconnection from her own desires and the reality of her situation. As she wades through the glimmering social scene, a sense of loneliness begins to shadow her every move.

Amidst this whirlwind, a chance encounter introduces her to the enigmatic Frankenstein, a figure who seems to embody both the chaos and allure of the city. Their relationship begins to unfold amidst the backdrop of artistic innovation and personal reinvention, intertwining their journeys in unexpected ways. Cleo and Frankenstein find solace in each other, navigating the complexities of love, ambition, and the search for identity in a world that feels increasingly out of reach.

As their connection deepens, the two are faced with the challenges of vulnerability and the yearning for something more substantial than fleeting moments. Cleo learns to confront her insecurities, while Frankenstein reveals layers of his own past that complicate their burgeoning bond. Together, they explore the interplay of art, life, and love, challenging each other to weave their dreams into a tangible reality.

In their intertwined stories, Coco Mellors crafts a rich narrative that delves into the hearts and minds of two individuals striving to reclaim their places in a city that pulses with both promise and peril. Their journey is not merely a search for connection, but a quest for authenticity amidst the bright lights and inevitable shadows of New York.

I added this to my read pile, after seeing reviews comparing it to Sally Rooney's work (I loved Normal People). I actually think this was better! A mix of flawed characters that are actually likeable, you care about their relationships and friendships and forgive the mistakes. There's growth and change, a great story but definitely a rollercoaster of emotions. Some upsetting themes, so suggest searching for CWs.
