Descrizione

In a once-thriving city surrounded by towering walls and vibrant life, Elantris has fallen into despair. The magical sheen that used to envelop its glorious inhabitants has vanished, leaving behind a haunting memory of what was. The former god-like residents are now cursed, transformed into pitiful shadows of their former selves, suffering in an endless twilight of existence. Amidst the decay, the city becomes a symbol of lost beauty and hope.

As the story unfolds, a handful of characters navigate this treacherous landscape. A once-prominent prince faces the harsh realities of his downfall, forced to confront his new reality as he discovers truths that challenge everything he believed. A determined princess is caught in a web of political intrigue and personal sacrifice, straddling two worlds as she seeks to restore the legacy of Elantris while grappling with her feelings for those affected by its curse.

Together, they uncover the profound secrets of the city and its magic, igniting their quest for redemption. Their journeys intertwine with themes of love, power, and the quest for identity in an ever-changing world. The fate of Elantris hangs in the balance, and only through courage and ingenuity can its story rise from the ashes.

Took me a while to finish because it's both a chunky book and I've been busy in my personal life lately, but it was absolutely worth sticking with this book until the end.I knew going in that this was Sanderson's debut novel, my first Sanderson book and one that the community doesn't seem to favour all that much in comparison to his other books, so I was open minded as I read it, not expecting perfection on the first go.The first half of the book is a bit of a drag, a lot of political back and forth, world building and explaining just about everything. Which is usually common for long fantasy novels like this, but past the halfway mark, the book changes completely. Everything becomes much more intriguing, things start to come together and characters really start developing. I really loved all of the main characters, while enjoying some of the side characters (while others felt a little flat).Overall, a very good debut novel, one that I thoroughly enjoyed the latter half of. Especially the characters Hrathen and Galladon, they are my two favourites and I love them both equally....Even if Hrathen clearly has the absolute best character development overall. :)
