I'm going back to read this debut series after reading her other series. Still on brand with Canadian cowboy romances. I stayed up way too late reading this. I was super invested the whole time. I am scared to say anything else because this book unfolded so well.
my favorite thing about this series is seeing how much elsie silver has grown as an author. because otherwise it’s just pretty mediocre.i was really excited to go into this because violet EATON??? more EATONS??? sign me up immediately.howeverrrrrr i ended up hating her character so bad. she gave off not like other girls so much in this even though i didn’t get that vibe from her in any other book? at one point she literally says “once a horse girl, always a horse girl.” or when she sleeps outside and see a bug and claims she can’t be freaked out because she’s “no city girl.” okay we GET IT. you grew up on a RANCH with BROTHERS. you’re basically one of the boys. now SHUT. UP.cole was a pleasant surprise though. he was so broody in the first book so i expected to really hate him (see: i love my fun sarcastic cocky men) but he was actually a solid character. he reminded me a lot of beau at first but turns out cole is actually self aware aka he actually knows he has problems and sees a therapist about them.the whole premise to their relationship was unlike anything i’ve read before – and i mean that so literally. they met online a few years ago and stopped talking on bad terms eventually and now they’re kind of thrown together again. you would think that history would give the romance some angst. some tension. unfortunately i just didn’t feel any of that. i felt no emotional connection for them or between them. it felt very ... jumpy? like they have this “romantic” moment out of nowhere and then it’s kind of just filler until the next one. nothing of substance happened in between.so this was okay. definitely better than the first one but it’s still missing something, maybe the found family aspects that elsie silver is literally known for but again, i get this is her first series so it might just truly not be all that amazing.
