Gary Specter knows it's hard to make it in rock 'n' roll. For over a year he and his band, The Coming Attractions Plus Oscar, have been trying to get bigger shows, an album contract, and a tour. But they just don't have the right connections.

It looks like their luck may change when Gary and his drummer, Karl, meet rock band manager Barney Star. Barney seems to have the connections to get them everything they want. However, Gary is doubtful and watches Barney closely, but is soon distracted by Allison, a beautiful ballet student. It isn't long before Gary is thinking more about love than about music. It's only when Barney's "connections" fall apart that Gary learns how much trouble he's gotten the band into. They've worked too hard to let their dreams slip away. Can they make the beat go on?
