Ok so no hate, but I am just not here for several more 500+ page books of emotional damage. Its like Zodiac Academy all over again. Its good, great even. But I cant do it.
After reading book one I was expecting this to have me hooked right from the start. The first chapters however, didn't quite pull you in as much as I wanted. What I will say is, stick with it! Once the story got going it was back to the high action and dangerous scenes that I loved from the first book. With a war looming there's no time to get big headed about surviving first year. Second year everything steps up a level, training, bonds, and responsibility. There's new dangers lurking forcing secrets into the open. This was edge of the seat, high anxiety, 'what did I just read', heart in mouth entertainment. Another shocker of an ending left me shouting out and staring into nothing. My emotions will be high as I start book three and I'm already begging for book four to be announced!
5 stars? I really need yall to get serious about this series. This easily could have been a 300 page book. Why do all of you love being tortured for the thrill of a 2-minute seat clench moment? 3 stars is generous. Slow burn doesn’t even begin to describe the glacial pace. Violet’s desperation for a man is insufferable. Wasted 28 hours for maybe 2-3 of worthwhile plot, I am sick!!!
I love this book. I love their story and the depths of it that this book adds on. You learn so much about so many things and honestly feel like you are there with them. Its a big book but when it comes down to it you want it to be longer. I think I cried throughtout the last 30 pages because its just so powerful and sad. I debated picking up the next book after i finished this at 2:30 in the morning because i need to know what happends next.

Picking up immediately after the events at the end of Fourth Wing, Iron Flame focuses more on the emotional aftermath for Violet and the strain it puts on her relationships as she questions everything and everyone she thought she knew. Compared to the action packed, high stakes plot of the first book, the first third of this one feels pretty slow. The action does pick up in Part 2 and there’s plenty of heart racing, gasp inducing scenes as the Revolution builds and the fight with the Venin begins but I’m not sure we needed 600+ pages this time. As with the last book, I LOVED the relationship with the dragons (Tairn makes me lolfr more than any character) and I loved getting to see more of the camaraderie with Violet, Rhiannon, Ridoc, and Sawyer. Thankful for no “Liam” moments in this book. My heart wouldn’t have taken it. I’m also glad there was some semi-redemption for Dain. The push and pull between Xaden and Violet was frustrating for the first half but I love how strong and connected they came out in the end. Goodness, I didn’t think I could love Xaden more but here we are. I love how he fought for Violet and how open he became to be what she needed. There’s so many unanswered questions about his past and now his future. I’m hoping we finally get some of his POV in the next book! Speaking of unanswered questions… THIS ENDING?! And with so long still to wait for the next book?? Reading this unfinished series is going to prove to be a lesson in patience. Can we pleeeaaase stop ending on these big cliffhangers?

I was very eager for book 2, but unfortunately, it wasn't as captivating for me as book 1. Despite its relatively large size, the book flowed smoothly and gave the story good development. One thing I like about this series is that I feel I connect even more with the side characters. (Of course, Violet is a lovely and respectable character to me, but Xaden, despite being likable, isn't as tangible a character for me.) Rhiannon, Ridoc, Sawyer, Brennan, Sloane, Aaric, Dain (thank God for the redemption arc happening to him), Imogen, and even Mira. I'm glad I had enough content about each of them, and I hope more is said about them in future books. Also, I didn't expect the plot twist at the end of the book at all; I was really shocked.

Coming straight out of Fourth Wing, I wanted to dive into Iron Flame immediately. I know I’m super late to the series — at least the newest two books — but wow, this one took me on a ride.I’ll be honest: the beginning felt slow, and it took me a while to get into it. But once you push past the first 50%, the story really starts picking up. There were moments where I had to physically put the book down because it made me so unbelievably angry — in a good, emotional-gut-punch kind of way.I do have to say that after the halfway point, it slowed down again for me. I didn’t always have that same “I need to read one more chapter NOW” feeling that Fourth Wing gave me. However — and this might be a tip for future readers who are struggling — I read it alongside the Graphic Audio version, and that made the entire experience so much better. The acting, effects, and energy brought everything to life.The ending completely brought the momentum back. I felt so many emotions — shock, anger, heartbreak, excitement — you name it. And overall, the book adds a lot of depth to the series. You can tell the slow parts were necessary to set up the bigger picture.In short: a really strong sequel. Not perfect, but powerful — and definitely worth it.
