The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is, unquestionably, one of the most respected colleges in the nation, and its alumni are among the most respected in the world. Being that it’s the premier school in many science and engineering fields, MIT students have the reputation for being math and science geniuses. Contrary to popular belief, though, MIT is not a place where students spend their free time building mega computers or watching Star Trek marathons on Friday nights. True, these people do exist here, but you’re more likely to find fellow students who like to lift weights, play basketball, or go club hopping than you are to find Lewis Skolnik clones who program CPUs “just for kicks.”
The purpose of this book is to show you some of the other aspects of the school that no one realizes except for the people who go here. From the ins and outs of the dining system, to understanding the different dorms, there are many things that MIT won’t tell you in its standard information packets. In fact, there are a lot of things that students don’t learn about until they are upperclassmen.
One of the most unique things about MIT is that it is almost impossible to generalize anything about this school. MIT’s admissions office chooses people who are exceptional, and these people shape all the different aspects of life on campus. So, forget everything you’ve heard, and forget all the stereotypes, because MIT is a school that will constantly surprise you, unless, of course, you read this book. Good luck!
