Newspeek was one of a series of "Christmas Cards" that were created by Hugo Gernsback and sent to his friends and business acquantances. Newspeek was first mailed in 1966 and is quite simply, a parody of the Newsweek magazine of that time. The original booklet/card measured 5 x 6 inches. It is presented here in a larger, more readable size. There is a total group of more than 20 of these cards/booklets. We will be adding more on a regular basis. If you like this one, look for the others. Words from the "It is clearly a most unpleasant task for me to speak at our approaching Yuletide of the imminence of another war, but the urgency of present world events ;eaves me no choice. "Having for over 40 years predicted the future, with hundreds of accurate hits -- particularly in technical developments -- I believe it is my duty at this time to give yo a preview -- of World War II as I forsee it. "To be sure, not every phase as pictured here will come to pass, nevertheless I know one thing, and of this I am absolutely WE WILL BEAT THE COMMUNISTS IN THE END. This certainty stems from the fact that modern war is a highly complex technical undertaking. But America and its Western Allies have always led in technical progress, whereas Russia and its present satellites have always copied us -- often badly. Also, if we could beat those most highly skilled technicians -- the Nazis, who far surpassed the Russians -- then our task with the Communists should not be too difficult. "My urgent message to the Communist leaders is "Beware of starting World War II -- now, or in the forseeable future -- YOU CAN'T WIN!" It is still time to come to your senses. It is my fervent hope that I shall not live to see another World War, and, if what I have written in these pages will prove to be even a short deterrent to the foreign war makers, I shall feel amply repaid."
