In a series of thought-provoking conversations, two insightful minds delve into the complexities of contemporary global politics. Noam Chomsky, a renowned intellectual and critical thinker, engages in dialogue with seasoned interviewer David Barsamian, tackling urgent issues that challenge the fabric of democracy worldwide. Their exchanges unravel the forces at play behind the recent waves of democratic uprisings, illuminating how these movements contest established power structures.

Chomsky's perspectives, informed by decades of political analysis, shed light on the shifting dynamics of U.S. influence across the globe. He articulates the multifaceted nature of resistance against imperialism and the implications for both local and international communities. Barsamian’s probing questions prompt deep reflections on the role of grassroots movements, the significance of solidarity amongst people, and the enduring quest for justice in a world marked by inequality.

As they dissect the historical and current realities of global governance, the conversations resonate with urgency. The authors reflect on the responsibility individuals have in fostering change, emphasizing that hope lies not merely in passive observation but in active engagement. The interviews serve as a rallying call, encouraging readers to contemplate their roles within this evolving landscape.

Through these rich discussions, a sense of realism is married with an optimistic outlook for the future. The book reminds us that while challenges abound, collective action and critical thought can pave the way for meaningful progress. The dialogues exemplify the power of ideas and the necessity of questioning the status quo, urging readers to consider what comes next in the fight for genuine democracy.

I would recommend this book to International Relations students or any current affairs / social politics enthusiast. This book reminds me of 'Diskusi Koridor', regular afternoon talk I used to attend in college, for covering many subject matters that most people talk about. Chomsky, in his conversations with David Barsamian, answered numerous questions from his point of view; from democracy, economic recession, Arab Spring, education system, mental slavery, globalisation, media propaganda, corporate power, poverty et cetera. As he wrote this very beautifully, Chomsky has helped his readers understand his opinions easily, and reading this feels like enjoying chocolate cake; so delicious. So much so that you're addicted and want to read more and more books by him.
