I may have loved these characters most of all in this series. I’ve related most to the people-pleasing, sunshiny Sloane and I just wanted to reach in and grab Jasper for a hug. Friends to Lovers isn’t always my favorite trope but I loved watching their dynamic shift and grow. And why did Jasper give me country boy Christian Grey vibes? His backstory, the need for control, etc. I will say that the spicy scenes in this series don’t always seem to quite match up with the character. Like they suddenly have a whole different personality. While I’ve loved the setting of these books and the very real feeling characters, I don’t feel any great desire to read the other 2 in the series. I’ve enjoyed them but they’ve also all kind of felt the same.

I really enjoyed this book! I haven’t read the other books but as this was our monthly book club book I found out about this series. The story is amazing. The character building I really loved ! And honestly I was not able to put the book away. The only thing I got really annoyed with were the grammar errors in this book. I don’t think this was on purpose but it got me stuck on a sentence multiple times. I don’t know if this was only in the kindle version of this book as I read it on KU but this is something to keep in mind. But overall a very well written and lovely book that I would highly recommend !

꒰ ⋆ ౨ Powerless by Elsie Silver ৎ°⤿ Started: 11.04.2025⤿ Finished: 28.04.2025⤿ Rating: ★★★★☆I was in a vacation type of a days and I was busy all day long, it didn’t gave me the right opportunity to enjoy this book in one night because it felt ages when I started this one and I am so happy that I couldn’t describe it.⟡ Summary:Powerless follows childhood friends Jasper Gervais, a charming hockey player, and Sloane Winslow, a spirited woman trying to find her place in the world. When Sloane’s life takes an unexpected turn, leaving her heartbroken and adrift, Jasper steps in to help her escape — leading to a spontaneous road trip and fake marriage pact. As they travel across the country, old feelings resurface, and their deep-rooted bond turns into an undeniable romance. But both carry scars from their pasts, and they must confront their fears and insecurities if they hope to turn their pretend love into something real. Set against the backdrop of the Chestnut Springs ranch and the wild open road, Powerless is a heartfelt, steamy friends-to-lovers story about finding strength in vulnerability and love when you least expect it.⟡ ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ Characters:In Powerless, the characters of Jasper Gervais and Sloane Winslow emerge as intricately layered and profoundly relatable figures, each embodying a unique blend of strength and vulnerability. Jasper, the introspective hockey player with a heart of gold, grapples with the haunting shadows of abandonment and an enduring fear of never finding his true place in the world. Despite his accolades on the ice, he often feels adrift in life’s broader arena, which amplifies the poignancy of his unwavering loyalty and protective instincts toward Sloane. He is a hero who expresses his emotions in subtle, understated ways, yet his depth of feeling resonates powerfully with readers, compelling them to champion his journey.Conversely, Sloane presents a striking portrait of fierce independence intertwined with profound vulnerability. Raised in an environment of privilege that often feels stifling, she wrestles with the dichotomy between societal expectations and her innermost aspirations. Her courageous choice to abandon the familiar comforts of her life in pursuit of personal freedom—despite the fear that accompanies such a leap—is nothing short of inspiring. Witty, headstrong, and brimming with passion, Sloane’s evolution throughout the narrative is both authentic and empowering, inviting readers to witness her journey of self-discovery and resilience. The chemistry between Jasper and Sloane is palpable, forged through years of friendship, shared confidences, and an unspoken understanding that transcends words. Their playful banter adds a delightful layer to their relationship, while the emotional bond they share runs deep, creating a foundation that feels both genuine and profound. As their romance gradually unfolds, it is marked by a blend of passion and tenderness, making their journey of navigating fears and vulnerabilities together a deeply satisfying experience for readers. Witnessing their gradual opening up to one another is not only heartwarming but also a testament to the transformative power of love and connection.⟡ ⋆౨ৎ˚⟡˖ ࣪Review:The core argument of *Powerless* by Elsie Silver posits that genuine emotional resilience is cultivated through the acceptance of vulnerability and the courageous confrontation of past traumas, particularly within the framework of enduring friendships. The narrative intricately weaves the lives of childhood companions Sloane Winthrop and Jasper Gervais, delving into the profound ways in which love can act as a restorative force. This relationship not only highlights the potential for healing but also emphasizes the importance of overcoming personal insecurities and societal pressures. As Sloane and Jasper navigate their fears and gradually reveal their innermost selves to each other, the story beautifully illustrates how their long-standing friendship can evolve into a robust and passionate partnership, showcasing the transformative power of love when it is nurtured through honesty and vulnerability.I’d say my favorite character in Powerless was definitely Jasper Gervais. His loyalty, protectiveness, and quiet emotional depth made him incredibly compelling. Jasper wasn’t just a typical brooding hockey player; he was someone struggling with feelings of abandonment and fear of not being enough — which made his connection with Sloane all the more poignant. Both Jasper and Sloane felt very real to me. They were messy, imperfect, stubborn, and vulnerable in ways that made their story believable. Their history as childhood friends gave their relationship a foundation that felt authentic, and watching them fight through misunderstandings, internal fears, and old wounds felt like witnessing real people trying to heal and find happiness. The story also had a natural unpredictability; I was never entirely sure how their personal battles would play out, or whether they could overcome their ingrained fears to truly be together. That uncertainty kept me emotionally invested the whole time.My favorite part of the book was their spontaneous road trip — particularly the scenes in the small motels and the quiet moments when their faking their feelings for each other started feeling a little too real. Those scenes were written with so much tenderness and emotional tension that it was impossible not to root for them. Elsie Silver has a real gift for writing vulnerable, emotionally charged scenes — the sad moments, especially when Sloane confronted her feelings of being unwanted, were heartbreakingly raw. At the same time, the banter and teasing between Jasper and Sloane made me laugh out loud more than once, offering a beautiful balance of heavy and light moments. Overall, the story completely gripped me; I found myself eagerly turning pages, desperate to see them find their way back to each other, not just as lovers but as two people finally feeling truly seen and loved for who they were.Honestly and obviously, I didn’t find the ending of Powerless frustrating at all — it was confusing for me because it ended the way I always wanted an Elsie Silver's book to end and It was beyond my expectations. Instead, it wrapped up Jasper and Sloane’s story in a way that felt earned and satisfying. Their journey was about healing and choosing each other despite their fears, and by the end, that felt complete. I actually appreciated that there wasn’t some wild, shocking twist left hanging; it allowed me to close the book feeling happy for them rather than anxious about unresolved threads. As for the characters, I didn’t find it difficult to care about either of the main ones. Both Jasper and Sloane were so layered and vulnerable that it was easy to root for them, even when they made mistakes. If anything, their flaws made them more lovable — you could feel the weight of their personal struggles and how much they wanted to be better, not just for each other, but for themselves. The story wasn’t scary at all, and the themes it focused on — like abandonment, belonging, self-worth, and finding family — were deeply emotional and resonated with me. If someone were looking for action or heavy suspense, they might find it a little slow-paced, but for me, the emotional depth was the highlight. It’s not a thriller or horror-type novel; it’s a slow-burn, heartfelt friends-to-lovers romance that leans heavily into vulnerability and emotional intimacy. The way Elsie Silver tackled these themes made Powerless a beautifully comforting read rather than something frightening or dull. Every page felt like a gentle tug on the heartstrings, and even the slower moments served a purpose in building the emotional world of the characters.I would definitely recommend Powerless to readers who love emotional, slow-burn romance, especially fans of childhood friends-to-lovers. It’s perfect for people who enjoy relationship-driven stories with a lot of heart, vulnerability, and some playful, swoony moments mixed with heavier emotional themes. I think it would appeal mostly to older teens and adult readers, particularly those who appreciate characters grappling with real insecurities like abandonment, self-worth, and the fear of being unlovable. Readers who like a bit of small-town charm, road trip adventures, and emotionally rich, character-driven plots will find a lot to love here.────୨ৎ────⤷ Thank you for reaching to this point here and I'm really glad and thankful for you, love you ⟡.
