The hunts are taking their toll on Ichirin. Constantly being on the lookout for creatures summoned forth from Japanese mythology intent on sowing the seeds of chaos and destruction. Her spiritual guide, a bodiless kami bound to assist her, reminds her this is her destiny and her calling. Yet through it all, Ichirin can’t help but feel there is more to see, forces moving behind the curtain. When the latest in a string of hunts turns out to be a creature capable of speech, she hopes for the opportunity to gain some answers. But as she navigates the web of lies and half-truths woven by more than one party, Ichirin struggles to pick them apart and discover the truth underneath. Every answer yields more questions, and she can’t shake the feeling that time is running out. The stakes are rising and she doesn’t even know all the players.
