Fifty-six-year-old Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom is wealthy, suffering from heart trouble, and at his most introspective. Rabbit at Rest finds John Updike's famous protagonist at the end of the Reagan era, contemplating the end of his own life. Ensconced in their Florida condo, Rabbit and his wife Janice are visited by their grandchildren, son Nelson, and daughter-in-law Pru. Nelson has become a skittish cocaine addict, Pru seems to be tempting Rabbit, and grandchildren Judy and Roy are far too precocious for their own good. One of Updike's most powerful novels, Rabbit at Rest was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1991.
