Three centuries from now, mass migration from the tropics towards the Arctic Circle has squeezed resources and reshaped the geopolitical landscape. Food security is the highest priority for each of the northern hemisphere’s large city-states, foremost among them Demeter on Baffin Island, where the Ministry of Agriculture is militarized and willing to do anything to secure the food supply for its 31 million inhabitants. Freshly out of university, young botanist Vanessa Cruz joins the Ministry and embarks on a survey in a mountain forest in Honduras, beginning the adventure of a lifetime.
