Successful Reading Instruction

Fifteen education and literacy specialists investigate how to translate significant research findings in reading and reading instruction into practice. The ten papers included were first presented at a November 2001 conference in Washington D.C., convened by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Educational Laboratory, the Laboratory for Student Success at Temple U. Center for Research in Human Development and Education. Grouped into sections on reading research and assessment, and on reading instruction and practice, the papers explore the use of computer technology in reading, reading comprehension, interventions for reading difficulties, literacy standards and assessment, professional development for reading teachers, discipline/content reading, reading engagement and motivation, and effective instruction in the early grades.
