I caught this at the right time. I'm in the middle of a big leap of my own, and Santiago's journey resonated in a way it wouldn't have a year ago. The story captures the emotions and feelings that the difficult part was never the adventure...but the decision to leave the familiar behind, before you have any proof it'll work out.Don't usually read fables, but in this Coelho strips everything down until there's nowhere for the idea to hide, then trusts you to sit with it. It reads in an afternoon but it lingers a lot longer than the length suggests. Glad I finally got to it.
Wonderful. I couldn't put it down! Its a nice quick read but has an INTENSE impact with the lessons learned within.

This particular prompt was quite easy given my Anglophilia. I chose The Girl on the Train to cover it, mostly because my e-book hold from the library finally came in. It is set in England, and unfortunately I do not live there. “There's nothing so painful, so corrosive, as suspicion.” This was intriguing and rather dark. None of the narrators are entirely trustworthy or not morally questionable in some way. One of them I outright hated. I did see the ending coming before I got there, but I made it about to the halfway point before I started guessing right and I am a suspicious little bugger, so I didn't feel like things were too apparent. I enjoyed the particular way the "unreliable narrator" thing played out here as well as how carefully plotted everything was. I pretty much swallowed the whole novel in one quick rush and I did enjoy all of it, even the parts where I was busy hating someone. The ending was worthy as well, which has been a problem with thrillers lately. It's not going to go on any "favorites" lists for me (thrillers almost never do, admittedly, for all that I enjoy them), but I'm quite pleased I read it and I'd be interested in something else by the author.

Este libro es un rompecabezas psicológico donde nada es lo que parece.La narrativa usa diferentes puntos de vista y recuerdos fragmentados para construir una historia llena de secretos, engaños y tensión constante.Es de esos thrillers que te mantienen dudando hasta el final.Muy adictivo y lleno de giros inesperados.
I have mixed feelings about this book, on one hand, I couldn't put it down, and I finished it in three days even though I didn't have much free time. I wanted to know what had happened. I liked the story telling and the fact that story was told from the POV of three different characters,I liked the ending.I didn't see it coming. On the other hand, my problem was with the characters, how dislikable they are.I was disgusted by how easily almost every character was involved sexually with some other character.I don't like the fact that being unfaithful to their partners don't bother them. I hate all cheaters and women who knowingly get themselves involved with a married man and don't believe what they are doing is wrong. Married women who take their husbands for granted and cheat on them.Overall, it is a decent mystery novel.
Well this was a long old slog, but we got there in the end. I struggled to get into this book, and it only redeemed itself in the last couple of chapters. At 400 pages, it would have been a better, crisper book at 350.Not as good as it thinks it is
I intuitively bought The Alchemist. It's a decision I would never regret. I simply could not put the book down. It's the type of book that just speaks to your soul.
OMG! This is such a good book. Rachel uses the same train every day, watching as the same view out the train window. Her ex-husband had an affair, with Anna and he had another affair with Megan. However, Megan goes missing. Anna thinks all the phone calls were coming from Rachel and we find out towards the end that it was Megan. <spoiler>Rachel goes to Anna when she remembers what happened the night Megan went missing because she remembers that Tom was with Megan and not Anna. </spoiler>The surprise in me when I found out what happened to Megan and who hurt her and the plots twist.
4.5/5Enjoyed it immensely. Loved it from the very beginning. I usually don't like books written like this with different point of views but all the characters were so interesting that made me happy everytime it changed. Couldn't put it down. Guessed the killer and their intention right though but it didn't spoil the ending for me at all.
Who doesn't know about this book even if you are non reader you atleast heard of this book. Its a masterpiece if you read this book in your initial reading.
