Descrizione
When family plans necessitate sending four English children and their dog off to an ancient country house for their summer holiday, they expect a dreary time with their Great-aunt Louise. Deprived of their beloved seashore, they look forward to six weeks of nothing to do, and constant correction from someone who can not possibly remember what it is like to be a child.
But happily they find that Rushmead and their great-aunt are not quite as they pictured them. The house has a marvelous attic and many secrets. Among the treasures in the attic is a Toby Jug, a special kind of pitcher, that knows the secrets of the house and of those who lived there, and sometimes - at magic moments - tells them to the children. His stories recreate Great-aunt Louise's childhood when she and their Great-uncle Bertie had interesting adventures, too. And so with their beloved Toby Jug and many other surprises, the holiday turns out to be the best one they ever had.
A delightful combination of fantasy and reality lends true enchantment to this story about some lively children's lives of yesterday and today. A book for any child who loves a bit of magic.
