The Guest List

A group of friends, with a lot of shared history and not-so-shared secrets between them, gather together for a wedding on a deserted island that has a lot of lore and ghosts of its own. Soon after, a body is found and everyone seems to have a motive. This was a slow reveal whodunnit with multiple POVs and moody atmospheric setting. Usually too many POVs can get confusing but the author did a great job making the alternating chapters easy to follow and I loved how different all the characters were. It was definitely a more character driven story. There were some nice twists in the story but it was too much of an unbelievable coincidence that the victim ended up being the “big bad” for so many of the different characters (unbeknownst to them) and they just all happen to be in the same place at the same time but are otherwise unconnected in any way.

Muito previsível e lento. Acho que a intenção da escritora era dar pequenas dicas da solução do mistério, mas sinto que ou as dicas foram MUITO diretas e grandes, ou não houve outras situações que causassem confusão do leitor.Quando o livro começou a pegar ritmo (lá pelos 75%), literalmente TODAS as minhas suposições estavam corretas. Tem alguns toques adicionais que eu não tinha pescado, mas em grande parte não surpreendeu. Se você gosta de se sentir esperto por ter identificado o rumo da história, talvez esse livro seja para você. Eu senti que a história me subestimou como leitor e não adicionou muito. Não houve o choque.O clímax do livro, que eu imagino ser o destino do antagonista, foi totalmente também quebrado. Quando você se convence que a pessoa merece tudo de pior, você lê imediatamente o destino final dele. Eu quero ver o antagonista sofrendo, recebendo de volta todo o Karma que ele causou, e você me mostra só o resultado final? Um livro previsível, que não surpreende.

Boring drama. Boring characters. The whole book took place over just a couple of days, but it dragged on as if it took place over a month. All of the characters sucked aside from Olivia. The ending was disappointing and left me wondering, "is that it?" The women thought way too much about sex and the fact that they included a line about getting the "ick" from a man says all I need to know about both the author and this story.
