Stemming from the peaceful Shire, Bilbo's quiet existence is disrupted when a group of thirteen dwarves and the wizard Gandalf arrive at his doorstep, seeking his assistance to reclaim their homeland from the coveted dragon Smaug.

As he reluctantly joins the band, Bilbo discovers courage he never knew he possessed. Throughout his adventures, he encounters trolls, goblins, and enchanted beings, each challenging his understanding of bravery and friendship. The journey is fraught with peril, yet it unlocks secrets about Bilbo's character and destiny, revealing that true heroism can come from the most unlikely sources.

This captivating tale is presented in its purest form, echoing the lyrical cadence of Tolkien's original prose. The auditory experience immerses listeners in Middle-earth, allowing them to traverse through every twist and turn alongside Bilbo and his companions.

It's not simply a story about a quest for treasure, but an exploration of identity, belonging, and the unexpected paths that life offers. The narrative celebrates the beauty of adventure, the warmth of fellowship, and the transformative power of stepping beyond one's comfort zone. I'll preface my rating with the fact it's probably not the books fault as much as it's mine being newer to reading. The book is very dense and can be overly descriptive at times. Some will actually really love that. The chapters are longer but it gives Tolkien time to really explain whats going on. I would suggest anyone who is into fantasy or wants to read the LOTR series to go for it. It can seem daunting at first but just stick with it. It's an incredible fun adventure and I'm excited to finish the series.

This edition of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic is illustrated with 48 paintings by noted artist Michael Hague. Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure. They have launched a plot to raid the treasure hoard guarded by Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon. Bilbo reluctantly joins their quest, unaware that on his journey to the Lonely Mountain he will encounter both a magic ring and a frightening creature known as Gollum. Written for J.R.R. Tolkien's own children, The Hobbit has sold many millions of copies worldwide and established itself as a modern classic.

Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in quiet comfort. But the wizard Gandalf came along with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their quest, facing evil orcs, savage wolves, giant spiders, and worse unknown dangers. Finally, it was Bilbo-alone and unaided-who had to confront the great dragon Smaug, the terror of an entire countryside . . . This stirring adventure fantasy begins the tale of the hobbits that was continued by J.R.R. Tolkien in his bestselling epic The Lord of the Rings.
