Was this a train wreck I couldn't look away from? Arguably...yes. Did I enjoy myself? 100% But for the love of God Anna, I am begging on my knees, you can say the word cock, please, it will not kill you. If I have to read "his Goddamn" another fucking time I will need to be institutionalized.
What can I say, this book really surprised me. Anna, was hilarious and relatable and someone I would die to be friends with. Christina Lauren did a great job of displaying the excess of the rich. The obscenity of it sometimes. And even with this sort of money, no one in this family was in any way happy. Except perhaps, for Liam (West) who escaped his narcissistic father's claws early on. We the readers, don't even know the full story but we can feel the tension and the downright fear the Liam has just being in the same room as this monster. Anna...I relate to her in that she is petty AF. she becomes Liam's Ride or Die, money, or no money. She wants Liam to win, to pick himself for once. She never once backs down from Ray's threats to destroy her life because while she loves her life, there is not much there for him to destroy, she only has $20 in her bank account, she can't get much more ruined than that. But she's still willing to risk it to help Liam walk away from his father. I enjoyed the destination wedding setting. ten glorious days on a private tropical island with over-the-water bungalows. (you know the ones, the ones you always see on Pinterest) It really made the family gatherings that much more stressful. because you knew it was going to be nothing but vapid ugliness with a side of back handed compliments. Except for the sister-in-law, Blaire, she's a real one. I liked her too. She at least likes her husband Alex, but it's obvious that she blunts the stress with alcohol and continues to stay married to this hellish family for the money. I get it Blaire...you do you boo.
