A college student finds a story from his own childhood in a library book and it sends him on a fantastical adventure through time, magical doors, secret societies, and Harbors along the Starless Sea. This book is a love letter to stories, their tellers, and their readers. Its focus is definitely more on the WORLD than the plot. Even if the main plot seemed to get lost, the beauty is in discovering how all the stories within the story intertwined and connected together. Stories flowed without ending and circled back around to beginning. The Starless Sea (the place in the book, not the literal book) is a literary wonderland- it’s like the room from Willy Wonka’s factory where everything is edible, except here everything is a story. Would love to see this world come alive visually in a movie. It’s the kind of book you want to exist in. Like the world we WOULD exist in, if the story of every person, object, and place was written upon it or we simply took the time to read them.“There are so many pieces to a person. So many small stories and so few opportunities to read them.”“…I’m losing my mind, but in a slow, achingly beautiful sort of way.”
