Within the System: My Half Century in Social Security

ACTEX Publications is pleased to honor the memory of Robert J. Myers by releasing the memorial edition of his autobiography, Within the My Half Century in Social Security. The actuarial and public service career of this remarkable man spanned fifty-eight years and ten U.S. presidents. It was interwoven with the history of social insurance in this country and around the world. Through his personal recollections, Mr. Myers leads the reader from the formation of our Social -Security program in 1934, through several of its crises over the years, (most notably its major -reformation in 1983), and on into the future. He openly and honestly comments on the strengths and weaknesses of a number of well-known politicians. Along the way we are treated to glimpses of Mr. Myers' private life, a pleasant respite from the often stormy public and political arena. Mr. Myers' ultimate message is unmistakable, and unmistakably Social Security is fair, and it will outlive us all. We need have no fear concerning the availability of our promised benefits. The book contains an abbreviated list of Mr. Myers' publications (there have been more than 800), his memberships, awards and citations received. This special memorial edition also features an expanded photo gallery.
