Descrizione

Changes and Choices is the 15th in a series of books developed for Courses by Newspaper. Originated and administered by University Extension, University of California, San Diego, Courses by Newspaper has been preparing materials for the nation's newspapers and for nontraditional college level courses since 1973. We seek better understanding of the complex, nonpredictable human institution that engages nearly a third of the time of our lives. Our focus is on two concepts that would have made workplace scholars terribly uncomfortable 20 years Changes and Choices. It is constantly evident in these pages that work is not static and that workers are not unchanging. Chapters 1) The Meanings of Toward a Definition of Work 2) What Work Means to a Blue Collar Worker 3) Blue Collar Women 4) Professionals and Managers Are Workers Too 4) Changing Attitudes Toward Work and Roots of the American Work Ethic 5) The Work Ethic Today 6) Changing Notions of a Career 7) Women and Work 8) Work and the Family 9) The Organization of Alternative Work Patterns 10) The Quality of Work Life 11) Democracy in the Workplace 12) Work, Public Policy and the The Urban Unemployed 13) Creating Total Employment 14) Work and the Future.
