Looking at what zero is, or isn’t, or even if it is, or isn’t, can be a bit of a headache. And the answer is not found in either mathematical proof or the mysticism of numerology, but somewhere in between, by understanding the history of zero and its diverse in art, philosophy, government and society, we find zero is given different meanings. And that is something, even if others say it is nothing.

This book tries to give zero meaning. It provides an introduction to the subject of number theory, and is intended for the reader with little mathematical background, training or ability - but a lot of enthusiasm and curiosity. Encouraging the study of math using simple addition and subtraction, leaning heavily on the philosophy of mathematics, the complexities of number theory are explored to reveal … nothing!
