Emerson Hough was an American author best known for his contributions to the Western genre. Born in 1857 in Iowa, he spent much of his early life in the Midwest, where the vast landscapes and pioneering spirit of the American frontier greatly influenced his writing. Hough's most notable works include 'The Covered Wagon,' which vividly depicts the trials and tribulations of westward expansion, as well as 'Fifty-four Forty or Fight,' a stirring tale that captures the essence of American determination during the Oregon boundary dispute.
