すべて表示This book was genuinely a good read. I know we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, but the beautiful cover is what got me to read it in the first place.Characters: Both Margaret and Wes were so well written! Especially their dreams, their struggles, their battling emotions, and so on. I truly felt connected to them and was rooting for their dreams to come true! Even the minor characters like Wes's sisters, Mrs. Warford ( I think that's how you spell it), and the farmer guy (I'm really bad with names) were well written too. World-building: Ok, so this confused me a lot. Because I went into this thinking it was some medieval 17th-century story or something similar, but the mention of cars and phones threw me off. And then the description of the fashion statements in the city, the politicians and all confuse me even more, cause is this the early 20th century or even further back? Maybe I missed it somewhere, but I don't remember any specific mentions of the time period. The Plot: The plot was pretty solid, though I wish there could have been more details about the hunt. We get like the days counting up to the hunt, the events before the hunt, and just one chapter or two for the actual hunt, making it feel a tiny bit underwhelming. But I will admit, I liked reading about Wes & Maggie's everyday interactions and make-shift domestic life. The ending: The conclusion felt good. We get a sort of closure (emphasis on sort of) and a moving-on theme, and it ends with a sort of hope for both of their futures. I will admit that it felt a bit empty. We don't get much reaction about them winning the hunt. It feels so underwhelming. All those stakes for like a few happy smiles from loved ones in the crowd? And the whole confrontation with her mom felt so dull (maybe it's just me). Because the way the author wrote it up until then, you would think it would be more emotional, more dramatic, and stuff. But it falls flat and feels a bit hurried. I also wanted to know what happened to Jamie after the hunt. It's like we forget him after they win the hunt. Even the killing of the hala was so underwhelming. When I read that part, I was like, "Ya'll really built up this with so much lore and stories only for him to lose in 2 paragraphs?" Overall, regardless of the bumps I mentioned, I still genuinely liked this story enough to even recommend it to a friend. Because you can read it just for the author's writing style and the main characters.
