I will say that, while I appreciate everything that people love about the Veronica Speedwell series, 3.5⭐ is an accurate representation of my enjoyment of this book and what I've read from the series so far.I love Veronica and Stoker as characters, as well as their dynamic and romantic tension. I'm a big fan of this genre of historic mystery mixed with a lot of wit and humor. The particular mystery in this book was pretty interesting and I loved the bold choices the author made. What I cannot get behind (and that's entirely on me, as I understand the skill it takes to accomplish it), is the writing. It's not bad and it's very fitting to the story, it's just absolutely not for me. It just feels like this book could've been half the length if the author hadn't described every feather on every hat and hadn't used 5 sentences to explain something as common as "she ate soup". It's very fitting for the genre, it felt natural to the story (especially since we are in Veronica's head) just not fitting for my brain, unfortunately.I think I'm gonna stop here with this series, or I might end up hate reading it by the end of the next book.
