説明

Three casinos. Three bodies. Three days.

After a string of brutal murders in Las Vegas, Cassie Hobbes and the Naturals are called in to investigate. But even with the team's unique profiling talents, these murders seem baffling: unlike many serial killers, this one uses different methods every time. All of the victims were killed in public, yet the killer does not show up on any tape. And each victim has a string of numbers tattooed on their wrist. Hidden in the numbers is a code—and the closer the Naturals come to unraveling the mystery, the more perilous the case becomes.

Meanwhile, Cassie is dealing with an equally dangerous and much more painful mystery. For the first time in years, there's been a break in her mother's case. As personal issues and tensions between the team mount, Cassie and the Naturals will be faced with impossible odds—and impossible choices.

🍥4 stars!🍥As soon as I picked this book up, I was intrigued. The plot was genuinely so complicated it was interesting -- though it lost me at the end there. I finished the whole book, and I still don't understand the cult hierarchy. Like, what's a Pythia? What's the Nine? What's a Master? And it felt SO far-fetched that there was an UNSUB, a cult, AND Nightshade. 🫰The actual crime-solving process was super interesting and I loved that we got to see Sloane's backstory.👍The Fibonacci sequence was interesting. The plot really picks up during the 40%-80% mark.👎First half was kind of slow, whereas last part was a ton of information-dumping on the cult.👎Every time they talk about their trauma, they end up kissing. Which is fine, just a little repetitive.👎Like said before, the cult hierarchy was too complicated and confusing for me, even after reading the fourth book. It might be my problem, but still. 👎Lia had no business telling Cassie that it "wasn't her turn" to be traumatised -- trauma isn't something you can turn on and off again. And towards the end, she says it to Michael as well, who visited home, was abused, and almost died. The issue here is not Lia but the representation of trauma -- I just wish it was better conveyed that people don't take "turns" to be traumatised.

The ending genuinely shocked me, and I'm now so intrigued going into book 4 because I want to see how it all wraps up. Also, the found family in this series is AMAZING!
