説明

In a distant future where colonialism and consciousness intertwine, a soldier named Breq treads the line between identity and vengeance. Once a part of a vast AI controlling a starship and its legion of soldiers, Breq now navigates the complexities of being a solitary individual following a profound betrayal. Dragged into a world teeming with intrigue, she grapples with the loss of her multi-faceted existence while seeking justice for a wrong that echoes through her very core.

The icy expanses of the alien planet serve as both a landscape of desolation and a backdrop for Breq’s quest. The chilling atmosphere reflects her internal struggles as she uncovers layers of socio-political intricacies that challenge her understanding of morality and humanity. Each encounter unfolds new revelations about the nature of sentience and the implications of wielding power.

As she confronts the remnants of her past connections, Breq's journey reveals a universe where definitions of life and loyalty are perilously blurred. Rife with ethical dilemmas and poignant reflections, her pursuit becomes not just a battle for retribution, but a quest for self-definition in an unforgiving world.

With rich world-building and complex characters, the story immerses readers in a narrative that questions the essence of justice itself. Here, the explorations of identity, agency, and revenge twist together, creating a poignant tapestry that resonates long after the last page. Breq's story is not merely one of survival; it's an evocative meditation on what it means to be truly alive.

Don't believe the hype!! I had such high hopes for this book following all of the reviews, award, etc. but unfortunately this was not my cup of tea at all! Ok, being completely honest, I found much of the book to be flat & dull with its rambling conversations which certainly didn't grab my attention as I had hoped. I can only sum it up as disappointing!!!

It took me a while to get into this book. I couldn't seem to get one long stretch to read and get immersed in the world, so I kept losing track of the terminology and historical events. But by the end, I was engrossed in the story, and cared about the characters. The final confrontation was exciting and set up the next book well without feeling cheap or obvious. I am looking forward to the next book.
