yeah so i didn't like this! at all! the one star is purely for the isaiah and kennedy crumbs.where do i even start? this is instalust to the extreme. both of the first two books had the characters finding each other attractive early on, which is a normal human thought to seeing an attractive person, but this was straight up them wanting to jump each other's bones within the first five chapters. and you know what that makes the book? BORING. so damn boring. because what am i even reading for? the tension isn't there, there's absolutely no yearning, and nothing about the relationship was romantic. quite honestly i didn't even feel any chemistry between them and every flirty interaction felt forced and/or overdone to the point that it felt like it was overcompensating. you know it's bad when it has me complaining about banter.speaking of banter and chemistry and spice ... i mean, what can i say other than yikes. i never want to see the words "baseball daddy" or "hot nanny" used ever again. like actually burn my eyes out before ever letting me read or hear them. and, yeah, i skipped the spice. like, literally skipped. didn't even skim. just fully clicked past the pages on my kindle. and i don't mind spice! i actually really love when it's used to further a relationship between two characters who have chemistry and who love each other so deeply. but is there anything worse than reading about two characters whose relationship you feel nothing about hooking up? so icky. i cringed even when they had passing touches. i was not about to read about them doing all that.and call me heartless, but i didn't get emotional over anything. what was there to even get emotional about? how are you guys actually crying over this? just because max took his first steps like any baby-slash-toddler does? because he (very expectedly) called miller "mom"? i mean, really? i'm a crier over fiction, trust me. tears will be had. but this was just ... not worthy of them.the popular opinion is that miller is the annoying character in this, but let's be so real, kai was equally as terrible to read about. honestly miller didn't start bothering me until i was a little ways into the book, but i did definitely get tired of her. "oh i can't get attached, oh i'm not falling in love, oh i'm leaving in two months, oh baseball daddy baseball daddy baseball daddy, oh i'm not like other girls" shut the HELL up. please. for the love of all higher powers. shut up. and kai? his grumpy, overprotective, i-don't-like-anyone-except-my-brother attitude? nobody likes a standoffish man. the way he was setting miller (and every nanny) up for failure then proceeding to whine about how tired and guilt-ridden he was ... give me a break. are you thirty two or ten? both characters were so shallow and had a massive lack of personality and were impossible to like or get even remotely attached to.not to mention, on top of all of this, i hate romance books where the relationship has a deadline before it even starts. in this case, miller leaving in two months - which we were constantly reminded of. like, we know how it goes. either she leaves and feels terrible and goes running back, or kai does something to push her away so she leaves but realizes it was a grave mistake and goes groveling after her until she comes back. and sure, most things in romance books are cliche, but this (is it a microtrope?) is so annoying. the characters, like, self sabotage and it's always "let's keep it casual" and it just gets old so quickly. let's not forget that they are adults with free will! and miller is already realizing she kinda doesn't want to continue in her career anymore, and really easily could've said she's not going to continue with it, but instead she leaves anyway and is miserable the whole time, just for what? to give us a third act conflict that is totally unnecessary? to stretch the book out more than it's already been stretched?and, you know, this reminded me why i don't read baseball romances. i'm a sports girlie, you guys. my degree is literally in sport management. i work in sports (well, i'm actively unemployed but you get it!!!). i can live with a hockey romance because i don't follow the sport much, but baseball is my favorite to work and watch and consume. i know it like the back of my hand. so i notice the discrepancies. the way they were talking about a thirty two year old man like he was fifty was wild to me. takes a quick little google search to see that there are plenty of elite pitchers that are in their thirties. oh and not to mention he apparently never has a bad outing! until miller leaves, that is! compartmentalizing, who? you know, the skill that every athlete has to have? i just really couldn't get over it. and they're such tiny details, i know!!! but i was already not enjoying the book, so obviously i was looking for all the little things to hate at this point.thank god for liz tomforde's writing being so bingeable so i could finish this quickly, because otherwise it would've been a dnf. i spent all 390 pages rolling my eyes and checking how much time was left in the book and just deeply sighing over how annoyed and disappointed i was with this. honestly i didn't love kai in the crumbs we got of him in the right move and should've taken that as a bad omen for this book but i thought it was going to be one of my favorites of the series. giving this a one star was not on my 2026 bingo card but, well, here we are. zero out of ten do not recommend.----oh so many of you are about to be so mad at my review
This whole series is 100% chefs kiss, loge how Ryan, Stevie, zanders, indy and everyone is so involved. Like I can't wait for Isaiah and Kennedy story!! Book that are interlinked like this and still so cute and fun to read are the best
