I feel like this book was written for critics, rather than hobby readers - the words are beautiful, it's technically "well written" but honestly when reading it, I didn't find it engaging or enjoyable. I should say I hadn't specifically picked this book, it was one of the available options by this author at my library, so I didn't know what it was about before starting. The Children Act is brilliant, but going by the other reviews, Black Dogs isn't one of the authors best.
