Everything but the Ring

The Super Bowl, the World Series, the NBA Finals, Wimbledon. Dan Marino, Elgin Baylor, Ted Willaims, Karl Malone, Ivan Lendl and more--these greats and more never won the big one. They won conference or league championships, were the MVP's of their sport, set records and will be remembered in sports forever by many for their play. Still, something was missing from their resume. A quarterback set numerous records for passing. A running back set the all time record for rushing in a season. One player was considered the "best pure hitter in baseball." Another hit more than 600 home runs. One player averaged almost 40 points a season one year in the NBA. Another was considered the best ball handler ever. Despite all their accomplishments these and other great players had something missing from their resume. None ever won a championship in the most important game or event in his individual sport, whether a Super Bowl Title, World Series, NBA Championship or something else. They had everything--everything but the ring.
