When 11 year-old Emi Inuba is indentured to Lord Mitsugu’s pearl fishery, her rare gifts catch the eye of the old man that instructs the divers, who enlists her in a quest for a pearl with the power to change lives. Emi’s companions on her underwater journey are a moody giant squid, a noisy dolphin, and a robot submersible that has come untethered from the Research Vessel Ciel.
