Malcolm The Klutz

First in the series of MALCOLM KIRSTEN WALL "first novels", with Malcolm, Charlotte, Mooney and Suessy, the bratty little brother! The MALCOLM K. WALL series has been awarded for originality and appeal to children by peer assessors and jurors of the Canada Council for the Arts, and Arts NL. In this debut title, Malcolm wants to go to the party at his best friend and sometimes enemy , Mooney's house. But he can't dance, and he has a problem with The Asking Of The Girl Thing. Especially when the girl is one he has a hopeless crush on, Cleopatra-eyes Charlotte O'Royal. Tripping, bumbling, buggy-eyed klutziness takes on a new kind of cool as Malcolm haplessly succeeds in getting her attention, until betrayed by his know-it-all, slippery best friend. At least for awhile. The real hero emerges to the beat of The City Slicker Campers, the "band with holes in the knees of their jeans!" It's 60's revisited in 2018 as this honky-sounding band prepped with Presley, Buddy Holly and Wolfman Jack add extra charm to this catchy coming-of-age for 7-12 year olds. Enhanced with black-and-white cartoon illustration.

"Obviously special..... the result of Ryan-Lush's desire to help make the transition from picture books to novels of young readerhood...for children who are just getting into reading but not ready for the dynamics of a longer novel ....avoids overwhelming her young readers with too many characters and subplots...funny, poignant....as an award-winning children's author, Ryan-Lush had the perfect solution: create a series of books specifically tailored to be a child's first novel....Mark Vaughn Jackson, T.V. Week, The Evening Telegram

"Well-written as usual. This one has the same zippy energy that is so attractive in her work.....Anne Millyard, Annick Press

"Quite enjoyed Malcolm K. Wall. His narration gives the action energy and humour...Kids Can
