The Novel itself is fantastic but this Audible adaptation elevates it to a whole other level. The performances are excellent, the music and sound effects create a great atmosphere and Joe White has done a great job adapting George Orwell's Novel. Overall this was a gripping listen that brings the Novel to life in a way that I think George Orwell would have been proud of.

Me dejó pa la caga, una revelación en todos los aspectos de una verdad
latente entre nosotros, me tuvo tenso y me costó leerlo, buena lectura y me inmersé realmente en el ambiente .

The Novel 1984 seems culturally ingrained in our lives here in Britain. We use terms like Orwellian to describe certain types of Film, TV and Books: almost in a 'Newspeak' kind of way. Despite being written and published over 75 years ago its enduring power lies in how eerily it mirrors our modern anxieties and, indeed, lives in certain countries around the world.

The story follows an ordinary man named Winston Smith, who is a member of The Outer Party in Oceania: where Big Brother's regime controls history, language and thought. Winston's quiet rebellion — his diary, his love for Julia and his search for truth — leads him down a path that is both hopeful and devastating in equal measure.

The real draw of the Novel is Orwell's brilliant world building: the repressive atmosphere, the constant suffocating surveillance and Newspeak create a chilling study of political power and the eternal fragility of individual thought. It's unfortunate that the second act gets bogged down in dense exposition that grinds the pace to an almost standstill. Also it can be quite difficult to follow but that is by design as Orwell makes us, the reader, feel some of that isolation that poor Winston feels.

Even so, its an essential read that serves as more than a political warning. It's a profound commentary on humanities need for truth, love and independent thought. It has stood the test of time and remains as relevant as ever in 2025.

The plot was odd and confusing.

very interesting and enlightening insights on a totalitarian state and fascism, but slightly demeaning towards women, Julia is made to seem airheaded and unaware compared to Winston

This book was meh. I didn't dislike it but I also didn't like it. Like every other classic I've read, it contains a lot of misogyny, which wouldn't be that big of a problem in an old book if it also didn't have the main character think about SA-ing a woman, who later (SPOILER ALERT)Is like, totally so into him because he had that thought??? The first part of the story was OK, bit of misogyny sprinkled in, as I mentioned. Then the middle part of this was a snoozefest and I skipped like half of it because I couldn't care less. And the ending was also okay at best. Not the worst book I've read but definitely not a good book.

A heavy, unforgettable read—easily one of the best books I've ever picked up. Watching Winston Smith's journey from defiance to... what he becomes by the end, felt like living through a slow, crushing heartbreak. 1984 made me angry, sad, and achingly hopeless. This isn’t just fiction—it’s a warning. And the real fear? Knowing Orwell wrote this in 1949, and realizing how much closer we've drifted to the nightmare he imagined.
