The Ritual felt like the flip side to Midsommar — darker, colder, and more primal. The atmosphere was heavy with dread and isolation, and I liked how the story explored fear through both the supernatural and the psychological. However, some parts dragged and the pacing dipped midway, making it a bit hard to stay fully immersed. Still, it’s a haunting read with a strong sense of unease that lingers after you finish.
This book definitely has its ups and downs. The beginning was so slow and repetitive it almost put me off, but I powered through and, not gonna lie, it did have its moments.After finishing the book, I went straight to watch the movie鈥� and the movie was a crime 馃槶 I was so excited to see the book turned into a movie, but there was basically nothing from the book in it. The movie was so bad it actually made me feel bad about giving the book only 3 stars 馃槀
Loved it up to 30%… creepy, unsettling, even scary! But then… mehh. Lost interest, felt flat after that. In the first half, there were two things going on: the creepy creature lurking in the woods and the risks and dangers of getting lost in the woods... which kept me hooked.In the second half, there were two things going on: the scary creature in the woods and the devil (oops, I mean God) worshipping people in the woods... which, for me, was more dull than disturbing.Also, Luke’s pages-long monologues? Yeah, those were consistent—and consistently tiring. I was genuinely enjoying the first 30%, especially the unknown, eerie vibes in the woods, but everything after that just fell flat for me.
