This book was different than my normal reads, but I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It was a quick read, and I found myself liking all the characters. As a dog owner, I was a sucker for Ash, and had a personal understanding of the relationship between Alex and Ash. The lanky’s are an interesting and different sort of enemy, and the descriptions of the aliens were terrifying. I feel like a lot of this book was background information to understand the lives of the colonists, and their battle with the lanky’s. I think this was a great start and set up to the rest of the series. It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here, and to hopefully get back into all of the action that Alex was missing at the end of book 1.
